Terms of use
These terms apply to synym.com (“synym”, “we”, “us”), run by Ashfield Technology GmbH, Stockerstrasse 8, 8002 Zürich, Switzerland (UID CHE-132.313.515). By using synym you agree to them. If you subscribe to Premium, the section on Premium applies too.
Questions: hello@synym.com.
What synym does
synym suggests names for businesses, made by an AI language model based on inputs you provide. For each suggestion it creates, it checks whether some domain names look unregistered and whether the US and EU trade mark registers hold an identical word mark.
The suggestions are ideas, not advice. In particular:
- Trade marks. A green light means only that we found no identical live word mark in our copies of the US (USPTO) and EU (EUIPO) registers. It is not legal clearance. A similar mark, a mark in another country, an unregistered right or a company name can still conflict with a name. Ask a trade mark attorney before you commit to a name.
- Domains. “Free” means our checks found it was unlikely there was a registration at that moment. Someone else may register the domain before you do, and our checks can be wrong. The registrar’s own answer is the one that counts.
- AI-written content. Names, scores and explanations are written by an AI model and can be wrong, odd or unsuitable. Check that a name means nothing unfortunate in the languages and markets that matter to you.
You may use the names we suggest however you like. We claim no rights in them, and we can’t promise that nobody else has been shown the same name. We think our ideas may be helpful in general, but not all of them will be great. Choosing a brand for your business is your responsibility, and not ours.
Using synym fairly
- Use synym yourself, through its web pages. Don’t scrape it, automate searches, get round its limits or the check that you’re not a robot, or try to overload or break it.
- Don’t put personal data about other people, or anything unlawful, in your searches.
- We may limit, suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms.
Free use and limits
You can search without an account. Without Premium, synym allows 20 new searches a day (UTC) for each browser or account. Repeating a search you’ve already made that day is free. We may change the free allowance at any time.
Accounts
You sign in with an account you already have elsewhere (for example Google or GitHub). We receive your name, email address and an identifier from that provider, as described in our privacy statement. Your account is for you alone. You can stop using it whenever you like.
Premium
Who sells it
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. You buy Premium from Paddle, under its buyer terms (Paddle.com Inc. in the United States, Paddle.com (Canada) Ltd. in Canada, and Paddle.com Market Limited, of London, elsewhere), and it:
- takes your payment and stores your payment details (we never see them);
- charges and pays any sales tax or VAT due where you live, and may add it to the price at checkout;
- sends your receipts and invoices;
- deals with billing questions, refunds and chargebacks.
We provide the service you pay for: Premium on synym.
What Premium gives you
While your subscription is in force:
- 5,000 new searches a month, with no daily limit. Your month runs from the day of the month your subscription started (a yearly subscription has twelve such months). Unused searches don’t carry into the next month.
- Downloads: each search’s whole list of names can be downloaded as a CSV or Excel file, or saved to your own Google Sheets.
Prices and renewal
| Plan | Price | Billed |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | US$10 a month | every month |
| Yearly | US$60 a year (US$5 a month) | every year |
Prices are in US dollars. Tax may be added at checkout, depending on where you live. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice of a price change, which applies from your next renewal after that.
Refunds and cancelling
You can have any payment refunded in full within 14 days, for any reason, as our refund policy explains. You can cancel at any time from Account → Manage or cancel subscription (Paddle’s customer portal). Premium then lasts until the end of the period you’ve paid for and isn’t renewed.
If Premium stops working
If Premium is unavailable for a long time through our fault, tell us and we’ll arrange a fair refund for that time through Paddle. If we stop offering Premium, we’ll end subscriptions at the end of their current period or refund the unused part.
Availability and changes
synym is offered as it is. We try to keep it running and accurate, but we don’t promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that any name, domain or trade mark result is correct. We may change, add or remove features. We may change these terms; we’ll show the date of the change below, and tell subscribers by email about changes that affect them. Using synym after a change means you accept the new terms.
Liability
Nothing here limits liability that can’t be limited by law, including for intent or gross negligence. Otherwise:
- we are not liable for decisions you make based on synym’s suggestions, including choosing, registering or using a name, domain or mark;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, rebranding costs or legal costs from a trade mark dispute;
- our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 100 if greater.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by English law. The courts of London, England have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and can bring a claim there.
